Leveraging Neuroscience for Entrepreneurial Decision Making

Entrepreneurship presents unique challenges to the decision making processes of the brain. An entrepreneur must be able to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, view setbacks as opportunities and otherwise reframe situations to maintain hopefulness and enthusiasm. In this conversation, we’ll explore the concept of a growth mindset from a neuroscientific perspective, drawing from research to create new strategies to build resilience and to make the most out of the thousands of decisions we make daily. The Laugh Factory Nerd World Podcast Ep. 31

For the next three weeks I will be talking with the brilliantly insightful interesting, wise and wisdom packed Dr. Catherine Franssen. Catherine, along with being one of my very fav new friends of 2021 is a Life scientist at the Science museum of Virginia who is described as a multi-faceted scientific communicator with deep knowledge at the intersection of brain, behavior, and biology. She has made it her personal mission to advance scientific literacy using the lens of neuroscience to explore daily life experiences, such as stress, parenting, joy, decision making, and more. So basically she has made a career of answering all those questions we have ever had about why we do the things we do – so cool!!

This week Catherine and I are going to dig into the neuroscience of comedy! I am so excited to explore why we laugh why comedians chose stand up as a career and so many more quandaries I’ve always had about this bizarre world of comedy.

Kids & COVID-19: A Vaccine Q&A with Dr. Danny Avula

The Science Museum of Virginia has always encouraged Virginians to question their world. With emergency use authorization for the COVID-19 vaccine for children just around the corner, the Science Museum recognizes that parents, caregivers, and guardians have lots of questions about the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine for their loved ones. To help provide science-based answers, the Science Museum has teamed up with board-certified physician Dr. Danny Avula, Director of the Richmond City and Henrico County Health Departments, for a question-and-answer session about kids and the COVID-19 vaccine. During this free, virtual event, Science Museum neuroscientist Dr. Catherine Franssen and Dr. Avula will address questions submitted by community members. These experts will explain the science behind the vaccine development, the way it works in the body, the impacts it will have on children in the future, and more.
