Daylight Saving and Sleep Awareness

This week we are celebrating sleep!!!

It should be no surprise for anyone who’s read my blogs or taken a workshop with me that I love sleep! As a neuroscientist, physiologist, and stress expert I value sleep A LOT! It’s so good for your body and brain! And such a challenge to achieve in today’s society. To celebrate with me, check out some of my recent blogs on sleep:

Why are we celebrating sleep this week?

Daylight Saving Time returns again on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 2am. While the debate will continue on whether or not we should switch the clocks, the fact of the matter is that the majority of us will be mildly to moderately sleep-deprived in the days following the switch, just as if we had jet lag! Health consequences of shifting our clocks include: increased risk for heart attack and stroke, higher incidences of traffic and work accidents, mealtime crankiness, and more! This week, more than any other in the year, highlights how dangerous it is to lose sleep.

Perfectly timed each year to coincide with the shift in our schedules is the National Sleep Foundation’s Sleep Awareness Week, which will run March 12-18,2023 this year.

Every year, the National Sleep Foundation takes this time to reemphasize the important connection between your sleep and your health and well-being. We're here to help you become your Best Slept Self. Because deep, rejuvenating sleep is what we toss-and-turn about.

And March 17, 2023 is World Sleep Day!

World Sleep Day is an annual event, intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving. It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders. World Sleep Day is held the Friday before Spring Vernal Equinox of each year.
